Are You a SQUARE?

"Whatever gave you that idea?"
Yes, I can make it square.
No, it doesn't mean you're a geek.
Your cake will be quite rare.
What type of square do you seek?
And how much can you spare?
No, the cake won't take me a week.
I have a culinary flair.
The bride lets out a squeak
and tosses back her hair.
She'd like the cake to look very sleek
not shaped like a pear.
The husband-to-be seems quite meek
yet he chimes in "Are you aware?"
Then suddenly he ceases to speak
for his bride-to-be without a care
desperately turns right into a freak!
"I don't care what it costs, hunnybear
our future would be quite bleak,
I don't mean to give you a scare
but I'll send you up the creek,
if you won't pay her to prepare
a cake by jintrinsique!"

"Whatever gave you that idea?"
He quickly replied.
She said, "You said
I could & now you've lied!"
His face went red,
so I tried
to comfort Ned
without acting like I'd pried.
"You both know I've fed
brides who've cried
& felt of dread..."
They both then sighed.
"Let's move ahead,
her cakes, we've spied
& sampled her bread.
My brain is pretty fried,
we'll dish big dollars instead.
Now it's all cut & dried,
dear can we go home to bed?
With a glance at the wedding guide
The bride then shook her head,
out the door, they both did glide
and off away they sped!

LMAO! Jin, you are too funny!!!

Fun verses! Now you need to break the poem up and put it on small billborads along the road to Manitiawoc ala Burma Shave or Wal Drug:

"Sugar Shakes? You need square cake!"

jin said...

lesley: Good! I hope so! I do try...

phos: Great idea! I can join all the ranks of false advertising! I can put up a 6 tier wedding cake pic, & in really big writing state that it is "ONLY $4.00 at Uniquely Yours" then in the tiny print (too small to read from the road, of course) it would specify that's $4.00 per serving @ 500 servings. :-)

i LOVE that first cake. was it a fall wedding? so cool.

Anonymous said...

Yes on the first cake the bright white contrasted with the lovely flowers is very attractive.

jin: lmao, so I guess you are not buying tickets for the floor show?

jin said...

a girl: Yes. Fall wedding. It went to a very very bizarre little country church with an evil/sinster looking old woman creeping around...I may blog the story one day. *nervous laugh*

real: Why thank you...I'm pretty partial to that cake myself...I don't think I mentioned her check bounced...did I? Full payment is always due 2 weeks before the wedding to ensure the check clears...this one didn't about 4 days before...I understand that accidents happen (I've done it myself), so they get a chance to still pay with cash or credit card, up to three days before the wedding. That cake was paid for with cash!

You are very forgiving, but I imagine a late sale is better than no sale.

That first cake really is beautiful. And I can't believe someone would bounce a check on a WEDDING CAKE of all things! I would be tempted to crash the reception with the bad check in hand!

jin said...

I NEVER let it get that far! I make it clear, the cake DOES NOT get delivered if full payment has not been received! Too many people try to take advantage of small business' locally.

I had a small wedding cake a few yaers ago: day before the wedding they asked for it to be delivered. They originally inteneded to pick it up to get out of a delivery charge. They said they'd pay the extra $ when I dropped it off. Hrmph! They were not there...but...look out for jin!!!....I told the relatives that let me set up the cake that I could not leave until the remainder was paid, in cash. Someone forked it over...I sometimes wonder if they ever got it back! See, around here, some people will pull something like this on purpose...just to try & save a few bucks.

Remind me again why I'm not in NY or Chicago? lol

It's been said many times:

"squeaky brides
will oft confide
in bakers fair
who make cakes square"

;-)

Heeheehee!!!
flatlander,
you are
too cool
for school
hope the sweets
don't make you drool

p.s. I am slowly getting through your archives...I can't believe how much you write!!! Amazing!!! I think I'm in June of 05...I really LOVE how you write. :-)

flatlander said...

Thanks a bunch!

Make sure you lay a silver thread
to make your way back out of the archives.
I've forgotten what beasts might lurk therein,
and I wouldn't want to have to send in a search party!

jin said...

With a silver thread
tied to her head
& a flashlight at her side
She plunges in the archive
which looks like a giant hive!
There she meets a wasp
on a windowsill
& watches flatlander skate
from up on a hill.
:-D

LOL! I know what you mean about people doing anything just to save a few bucks. I lived in Minnesota for five years and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for half a year and it is a very different world than NJ/NY!

I've never been to Manitowac, though I've heard good things. I've been to Port Washington, which I liked quite a bit. I've actually been thinking for a while that I'd love to roadtrip around the Great Lakes. There are some things I don't miss about the upper midwest, but I miss the lakes!

jin said...

lesley: DA yoo pee? U were in DA yoo pee? heeheehee!!!

The Manitowoc area is very nice. We are, seriously, 3 minutes from the lake...we go there several times per week just for walks with the pup. Port Washington is nice too...when we have an afternoon off we spend it in Green Bay.
A great wildlife sanctuary,
an awesome veggie restaurant/coffee shop
& Barnes & Noble!

jin I'm hung over like a mofo and can't think of anything to write. Sorry. I know, I kow. You're so disappointed.....There's always next week.

wow great cake. So I had to find a computer to use just to peek in and get my sugar fix. Well not really being here (Germany) means I get plenty of cakes and pastries but none come with poems.

jin said...

katy: Awww! That's so neat that you checked out my blog while in Germany!!
I'll keep writing as long as you keep reading!!
P.S. Eat some sweets for me while you're there!! :-)
